At Pool Academy we believe that History is not about learning a long list of facts and dates. Content is important, but so are the skills to use it. We focus on developing those skills that are transferable and valuable throughout life, and we do this by learning about stimulating and relevant topics that help to explain the world we live in.

 

Year 7 topics:

Roman and Islamic Empires

The British Empire

The Battle of Hastings and beyond

Migration

Innovations through time

Own research project

 

Year 8 topics:

Slavery

Architecture

Changes In Warfare

Camborne, Redruth and Pool in the 19th century 

The Holocaust

Britain in the 1960’s

GCSE topics:

Unit 1- International Relations 1943-91 (The Cold War)

Unit 2- Germany 1918-39 (Unit 1)

Unit 3- The transformation of British Society 1951-79

Unit 4- Civil Rights & protests in the USA 1945-70 (Controlled Assessment)

KS4 courses: We follow the Edexcel Modern World History A syllabus. This comprises of four units, each worth 25% of the overall mark. and all entered for examination in May or June of the final year. The units are Germany 1918-39, International Relations 1943-91, The transformation of British Society 1951-79 and Civil Rights and protests in the USA 1945-70. The final unit is the Controlled Assessment unit."
